The Hottest Colours Of Summer And How To Use Them

Posted by Smart Calgary Homes Blogging Team on Friday, July 13th, 2012 at 12:48pm.

Summer is in full bloom, but is your home décor a reflection of the season, or is it in need of a pick-me-up? Take your home from drab to fab by incorporating the season’s hottest colours without making a big commitment. Use decorative items instead of paint, or use paint to perk up old pieces of furniture or individual walls.

Here are some of the most popular colours this summer, and our favourite ways to use them:

TANGERINE: The ultimate hue for trend-seekers – Tangerine (or Tangerine Tango) is a bold, exotic colour that goes beautifully in a variety of settings. If your home décor is earthy or woodsy, go for a more natural look in this colour; think natural-fibre throws, nature-inspired paintings or works of art, or rustic looking rugs. If your home is more sleek and modern, look for more daring pieces – structured throw pillows, geometric pieces of art, furniture, or even a painted wall (or stencilled pattern) will do the trick.

TURQUOISE: Easy to incorporate, turquoise inspires a clean, beachy feel in any room. Find translucent glass vases or vessels, towels, dishes, or pillows in this hue for an easy pop of colour. While it pairs beautifully with white, it is also complemented well by tangerine or coral tones, and wooden surfaces.

LILAC: This is the perfect colour if you’ve got a neutral, pale, or white theme in your home already, and aren’t looking to go too bold with your décor. Find fresh flowers, throw cushions, and candles in different shades of lilac for a calming, relaxed look.

MARGARITA: This colour is mild enough that you could use it on a wall, or large piece of furniture. It is also the perfect tone for window coverings, as it won’t make the room look smaller. Look for vintage, kitschy items at flea markets and garage sales to incorporate this hue into your décor.

What’s your favourite colour to decorate with in summer? How do you incorporate it into your décor?
