Gardening in Calgary isn’t always an easy task. After all, our weather can be harsh – stiflingly hot one day, snow the next – you need to make sure that you’re planting the right things (in the right places!).
First and foremost, it’s important for you to know that there are different plant hardiness zones in Calgary (due to microclimates, wind protection, sun exposure, etc.); but, for the most part the city falls in 3A. This will affect what plant varieties you intend to grow, and where you grow them.

Spring cleaning isn’t just about dusting under furniture and opening the windows to let some fresh air in; sometimes the outdoors needs a little freshening up too!

Here are 10 ways to brighten up your home’s exterior and yard:
1. Get those windows squeaky clean: First, give the outside of the windows a good rinse with a hose. Next, wash them with a mixture of warm water, white vinegar, and a little bit of dish soap; rinse well and dry them off. Wash the inside of the window with vinegar, and wipe with newspaper. Take the screens off and wash them with the same mixture as you used on the outside of the windows, and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub, if necessary.

Calgary Real Estate Market Overview: First Quarter of 2012

We’re already a quarter of the way through the year (can you believe it?), and it’s a great time to look at where the Calgary housing market stands. Here’s a brief summary of the Calgary Regional Housing Market (CREB) Statistics released on April 2, 2012:

Calgary’s market is still strong – a sign that our economy is steady, and that buyers and sellers are confident. According to CREB, “After the first quarter of 2012, sales are up by 7.3 per cent over the same time last year.”
The supply and demand for properties is not in balance, however, and there is a tight inventory. Despite this, CREB says that “single family homes continue to record strong activity, with sales increasing by 10.3 per cent at the end of the first quarter.”
